Ingrown toenails are common causes of foot pain.

Many of us have suffered with an ingrown toenail before, or know someone who has, but what many people don't know is that there is a long term solution to ingrown toenails.

Ingrown toenails have a tendency to be very painful and if you're unlucky enough to experience one, you may find yourself googling the best solution or even trying to remove it yourself.

This however, is not advised and can often lead to the problem becoming worse with an increased risk of infection.

A lot of the time one might be advised to bathe their foot in warm salty water, or cut a "v" in the center of the nail.

While these traditional methods have and may word for acute ingrown toenails and their prevention, oftentimes this will only ease the problem and not make it go away.

This often leaves one in a state of despair at which point the temptation of going at it yourself might be growing as you are resorted to hobbling on one foot with one shoe on and one shoe off in a panic to protect the injured toe!

However, we are here to tell you not to panic!

And we have the perfect solution to your ingrown toenail, whatever stage it is at. At Peak Podiatry we can offer you a short term and long term solution to your painful ingrown toenail.

  • Short Term Solution: If it is your first time experiencing an ingrown toenail, or if you are having acute pain from an ingrown toenail for a short period of time then it is likely that conservative removal of the spicule or part of the nail is sufficient. This is where our skilled clinicians will conservatively remove the part of the nail that is ingrown and offer patient education on how to prevent this from reoccurring.

  • Long term Solution: If you have a history of ingrown toenails, or you have suffered for a long time with a painful ingrown toenail, then you might be looking for a long term solution to finally put an end to your suffering! This is when our experts would recommend nail surgery. This is where the ingrown toenail is partially or fully removed under a local anaesthetic and an acid is used in conjunction with this to prevent the nail from growing back and the nail from becoming ingrown again. This is a very effective long term solution for ingrown toenails which can save you a lot of pain and suffering in the long run!
