The summer festival season is in full effect, and with that brings many long days and hard work for our feet.
Maybe you’re heading to Electric Picnic (or some kind of picnic) seeing a show in the big top or soaking up some scenes on shop street. Regardless of the specifics it’s important to take action on any hurdles which might be slowing down our fun.
As we covered a while back, verruca, commonly known as warts, are small, rough bumps that often appear on the skin of hands and feet.
While verruca might not be a serious medical condition, they can be a source of pain and discomfort and you’d be surprised at the level of shame and embarrassment they can trigger.
Verruca typically have a rough texture and can appear as small, raised bumps or flat lesions on the skin
The surface of a verruca may be grainy, with tiny black dots known as "wart seeds." These dots are actually small blood vessels
Depending on the type and location, verruca can sometimes cause pain or discomfort, especially when walking or applying pressure to the affected area.
Verruca can multiply and spread to other parts of the body through direct contact.
It's important to note that self-diagnosis isn't always accurate, and it is recommended to consult a podiatrist, for a proper diagnosis. They can provide expert guidance and determine the best course of treatment for your specific situation.
Plantar Verruca is the name given to verruca that are found on the feet. Usually on the soles of the feet, plantar verruca are often surrounded by hardened skin, causing pain and discomfort while walking.
There are a couple of different routes you can take depending on how patient of a patient you are.
Over-the-Counter Solutions: Salicylic acid-based creams, gels, or plasters can be used to gradually remove verruca. We typically don’t advise on this one as time is an important factor when treating verruca.
Debridement: This treatment involves physical removal of the wart. A scalpel and file are used to etch away at the verrucas surface. The downsides are that it may cause discomfort for some patients.
Laser Therapy: Laser treatment has emerged as one of the most effective options for stubborn verruca. Laser treatment is a NO Needle and NO Scalpel procedure. Instead, a sterile probe is applied to the area, targeting the verruca and leaving it with no hiding place. It offers a high success rate with little to no scarring.
Verruca can be a real pain to deal with, but with the right treatment, you can take action on them. From over-the-counter solutions to debridement, there are options available.
However, when it comes to stubborn verruca, laser therapy has shown remarkable results as the most effective solution.
